Streisand in Gypsy – Griffin Gives Up The D List

Barbara Streisand may shy away from the public eye, but she’s a performer who still has a vision.

She is now planning to direct and star in a new version of GYPSY, in which the star will play the classic role of Mama Rose.

Reidel reports Arthur Laurents, librettist for Gypsy, has given his approval to Streisand, whom he directed in her first Broadway musical in 1961, I Can Get It For You Wholesale, and for whom he wrote the beloved 1973 film romance The Way We Were. “Barbra and I have had long talks on this very subject," Laurents tells Reidel. "She had a mother who she always thought was Mama Rose. I don’t want to get into the details, but the point is she knows. She’s got it in her. She’s going to be much more than people expect."

Kathy Griffin is giving up her “Life On the D-List”. She’s ending her run with the show to move on to other things.

"It was a really tough decision because I think of the D-List as pretty much my baby for the last six seasons and I also think it was really time to stop doing it,"

Griffin told People magazinePeople . "Reality is great, but I really didn’t set out to be a reality star. So now it’s time to spread my wings and show that I’m a little different than Kate Gosselin.

"I’m not saying better, but maybe separate myself from the pack a little bit."
