I’m going to a baby shower for two women. Do lesbians have a thing against the traditional pink and powder blue baby color gift system?
Lesbians are not all alike. If you are invited to this couple’s baby shower, then you are probably an important person in their lives and whatever you bring as a gift will be appreciated. Lesbians, like any other group, are just a bunch of individuals with their own opinions and ideas. So, as for the “traditional color system,” blue-for-boys and pink-for-girls, it is really about personal preference, not sexual orientation. I think it is always great to just ask the parents or a close friend of the parents if there is a color scheme for the new baby. Or go with something you like. Take a step out of your comfort zone and ask how the Moms feel about the “color system.” If it’s Dads or a straight couple next time, ask them. The parents are probably registered at some stores so that will give you a clue but I think asking is always a respectful way to find out more about the family that has graciously included in this celebration of bringing a child into a family. There are no easy answers to the “color gift giving system” regardless of sexual orientation.
