Doctors believe that a patient who has undergone stem cell transplants as a treatment for leukemia, has in fact been cured of his HIV infection. It’s believed that genetically engineered stem cells may lead to a cure for the disease.
Another recent finding indicates that healthy people taking antiretrovirals, medicines used to treat HIV, may have as much as a 73% better chance of not contracting the disease.
