I’ve done my fair share of watching the television show GLEE. I’m always suspicious, though, when the common voices heap so much praise on a television show. I enjoyed a few of the early episodes, mostly for Sue Sylvester, the barbed mouth with the best lines I’ve heard from the writer of a TV show in some time. Recently, though, it’s clear the show has become full of itself and it’s starting to show.
The rock band Kings of Leon were asked by the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, if their songs could be used on the show. They declined. According to what I heard, the band had never even seen the show, so it was a simple no thank you, nothing more. Well, Murphy sort of came unglued…
“F— you, Kings of Leon,”…“They’re self-centered assholes, and they missed the big picture.”
Then the drummer for the band, Nathan Followill, responded with this…
“Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say fuck.”
Which many people claimed was homophobic. Followill later apologized.
All I can say is that GLEE should come down from their cloud and stop taking themselves so seriously.
