It is with a heavy but resolved heart that I share with you this news: Late yesterday evening, the Progress Pride Flag that we now proudly display annually on campus was torn down and damaged. I want to emphasize that such actions go against the principles of inclusivity, respect, and acceptance that are the very foundation of our Fresno State community.
In light of this incident, we are determined to restore and rebuild the sense of pride and belonging on our campus. We shall overcome. Fresno State raised a replacement rainbow pride flag earlier today. For those who would like to seek additional support, services for students are available in the Student Health and Counseling Center and employees are welcome to seek support through the Employee Assistance Program. The Cross Cultural and Gender Center will also be holding a safe space from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the TLC Pride Room for the remainder of the week.
Together, let us celebrate proudly the contributions and gifts of our LGBTQ+ community – now and always.
Sincerely,
Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, Ph.D.
President
