The weekend of World AIDS Day will feature 3 events, from which the proceeds will benefit The Living Room, a WestCare project.
The Living Room is located at 601 E Belmont (corner of Echo Ave) and is dedicated to encouraging and supporting the well-being and empowerment of persons infected, affected and at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Their many programs include Drop-In Center, Support Groups, Art Class, Legal Clinic, Lunch services and Food Pantry.
Food Pantry will be the focus of the November 30th fundraiser, organized by the Knights of Malta, Yosemite Chapter. Please bring 3 canned food items or $3 to receive 20 raffle tickets, and each additional can or $1 gets you 5 more tickets, so bring as many as you like! Also, there will traditionally be a non-traditional bowling game, this year with Christmas ornaments instead of bowling balls. $3 per game – there will be prizes for the best! All profits from both the raffle and bowling will be turned into even more canned goods to be donated to the Food Pantry.
There will also be a beer bust ($1.50/cup) from 9pm till midnight, and a “A Knight Queer Before XXXMas part II” show starting at 10:15pm. See Christmas and holiday songs done in the Knights’ style! Friday Nov. 30th, at the Red Lantern, 4618 E Belmont, Fresno. Questions? Call President of the Knights, Paris at 559-355-6163.
The next day you should head back to the canned food warehouse, because the Golden State Bears will be hosting a canned food drive during their annual Santa Bear bust, this year titled “Santa’s Back”. Just remember this: 5-5-5. Five canned food items or $5 gets you a commemorative photo of up to 5 friends in it – along with our Santa Bear (likely wearing his red jockstrap, hat, boots and little else!) and/or Elves. Each copy of the photo costs $5. The profits will be used to purchase food for the Living Room. Saturday December 1st, 7-11pm at the Den, 4538 E Belmont, or visit www.goldenstatebears.org
