Remember that bakery in Oregon that refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple a few months ago? Well, they’re closing their storefront.
Gay Star News reports:
Sweet Cakes by Melissa owner, who had cited religious reasons for refusing to make the cake, wrote on their Facebook page over the weekend that they were converting into an ‘in home bakery.’ On their Facebook page they state: ‘We here at Sweet Cakes strongly believe that when a man and woman come together to be joined as one, it is truly one of the most special days of their lives.’
You know the religious right will be all over this one. But note that no fines had been assessed yet against the business, and that they closed of their own volition. Also note that Oregon does not yet have marriage equality. Expect these facts to get lost in the next few days.
