Pentagon Ceases Enforcement of Don’t Act Don’t Tell

In the wake of the appalling yet expected appeal by the Dept Of Justice to the recent ruling by a Federal judge that the military policy Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is unconstitutional and must end, the Pentagon has announced that it will follow the judge’s ruling during the appeal process. The Pentagon will stop investigating allegations and will not discharge anyone violating the DADT policy.

Still, caution should be observed by LGBT military personnel. The Servicemembers Legal Defense Fund has stated that with such confusion during this time of legal challenges, it’s "dangerous for service members".

Robin McGehee, with GetEqual, hit the nail on the head by stating, "Today’s appeal by President Obama’s Department of Justice is not only indefensible – it is yet another shocking lack of leadership from the White House on issues of equality for the LGBT community."

Commenting in the midst of the current uproar, Obama stated that "This policy will end, and it will end on my watch." Well, we’re two years in to an administration that could possibly end in 2012, so when does he expect to accomplish this? While the Obama administration has stated that it is their duty to challenge rulings contrary to national policy, the fact of the matter is that Obama has missed yet another opportunity to allow an unconstitutional and anti-American law to be swept away.
