The stay on same sex marriages in California, issued by Judge Walker just after his ruling which overturned Prop 8, may not be here much longer.
Both Governor Schwarzenneger and Attorney General Jerry Brown have filed with the court to allow same sex marriages to begin immediately. Ted Olson and David Boies, the successful attorneys in the landmark case, have filed the same. Protect Marriage, a group fighting to keep same sex marriage illegal, have filed an opposing opinion.
Judge Walker is expected to rule any day now on whether to keep the stay in place. If his recent ruling and direct approach are any indication, it’s likely same sex marriages will be legal in California very soon.
