Fresno City College hosted it’s first annual Pride Day on Monday, May 1st. The well attended event ran from 10AM-2PM in the Free Speech Area of the campus.
Many local groups participated by hosting booths, including Gay Fresno www.gayfresno.com , Central California Alliance www.ccafresno.org , Fresno Rainbow Pride www.fresnorainbowpride.com , PFLAG www.pflag.org , Westcare, Planned Parenthood – Mar Monte www.ppmarmonte.org , Kampout Fresno www.kampoutfresno.com , Out Of The Closet Bookstore www.outbookstore.com and the Fresno Imperial Dove Court www.idcfresno.org
Several students took their place at the podium during the day to share coming out stories and personal experiences, alongside booth participants who explained the details of their respective organizations. A DJ and live entertainment added music to the day’s festivities.
Sara Martinez, who helped manage the event with a collaborative effort between the campus’s Diversity Club and Gay & Lesbian Studies, would like to convey the gratitude of all campus organizers for those who participated in Pride Day, as well as all those who came out in support of the event. They hope to continue the new tradition on an annual basis.
